General background & information
We previously had another version of this two-piece vintage bridal ensemble, and we were thrilled to find another one recently! (See it on our gorgeous bride Sasha here.)
Shirley is comprised of a column/wiggle dress and a detachable train. The dress is constructed from duchess silk satin and falls to the ankle. (It has a slit in the back for ease of movement.) Princess seams provide a superb fit. Shirley has an off-shoulder neckline. The bust is overlaid with delicate French Alencon lace, which wraps around to the back of the bodice. The off-shoulder straps are adorned with oversized silk organza flowers. A small line of covered buttons finishes the dress.
The train is attached using a series of hooks and hidden thread eyes across the back waist. Large silk organza flowers sit atop the waist attachment points. The train is constructed from several layers of superfine tulle and organza, so it floats softly behind the dress.
This style was featured prominently in bridal magazines during the 1990s, as shown in the final image. It is a showstopper, and it remains one of our very favorite dresses that we've ever had in the shop.
