General background & information
 
Louisa was Catherine Rayner's most popular design, beloved for its romantic feel and the ease of wearing it -- and of course because of Catherine Rayner's trademark rosettes on the sleeves. This Louisa was made from textured silk dupion, a lightweight yet structured fabric. The elongated dropped-waist bodice has strong internal corsetry to define the shape. It has a soft, wide V-neckline and long sleeves with silk fabric rosettes. The sleeves end in a subtle point, and they are finished with covered buttons. The sleeves can be worn on the shoulder, giving more of the classic mutton-sleeve look, or they can be worn off the shoulder (as shown in our images). For those who are uncomfortable wearing a long sleeve, the sleeves can be completely removed or made detachable. The bodice is finished with Catherine Rayner's signature oversized covered buttons down the back. 
 
Louisa has a column skirt with draping at the low waist. It has a dramatic train that is created by heavily gathering fabric at the back of the skirt only, giving you the best of both worlds: a dress that defines and emphasizes your figure, but also gives you the drama of a bigger skirt. The skirt has more rosettes at the back waist. 
 
It is not surprising that this was such a popular style for Catherine Rayner. It is very romantic, and it subtly evokes Victorian-era style without being costumey. We love Louisa!
