Background information & description
This is a lovely, extremely classic vintage Givenchy wedding dress from the renowned fashion house's short-lived bridal line. Flora dates from the early '90s (no later than 1994), and came to us with its original Neiman Marcus hang tag. The design feels so fresh, and the fabrics so luxe, that it is difficult to believe it originated at a time when the bridal world was dominated by mutton sleeves, over-the-top headwear, shiny polyester fabrics, and mountains of plastic beading.
Flora has a classic off-shoulder neckline that is trimmed with a subtly beaded embroidered lace. The lace has a motif of sweet five-petaled flowers. The rest of the bodice is made from draped duchess silk satin. The bodice sits at the natural waist, and it is finished with a line of covered buttons on the back bodice.
Flora's skirt makes a bold statement. It is constructed from a beautiful quality satin-faced silk organza, so it has a lot of structure and fluidity, but it is lightweight -- and a joy to wear. It falls naturally from the waist without any gathers or pleating, so the line is clean and simple. The drama of the dress comes from the extra-long train, which is stiffened with a wide horsehair band to emphasize the movement of the organza.
This is a classic, timeless bridal look that is equally appropriate for a garden wedding or a more formal setting. It looks especially lovely when paired with a long, lace-trimmed veil.
