Ralph Lauren's Fall 2010 collection had an edgy, bohemian vibe -- enhanced (at least for those in attendance) by the music he chose to accompany the runway show: Stevie Nicks singing "Sisters of the Moon." Like many of Lauren's collections, Fall 2010 was a celebration of fabric and texture. The collection juxtaposed feminine floral prints against fishnet, tweed, and crocodile leather. The prints recalled Lauren's early days as a womenswear designer when large-scale florals dominated the runways.

The evening gowns in the fall 2010 collection showed Lauren at his best, balancing the romance of the vintage-inspired prints with sexy details like peekaboo open backs. This gown was look #6 in the collection. It is made of ultrafine, extremely lightweight silk chiffon over a layer of black silk crepe de chine. Cut on the bias, the gown hugs the body and moves with the wearer. The standout feature of this gown is the skirt: godets inserted at knee height create movement, volume, and drama. They also enhance the shape and fluidity of the gown.

Look 6 is a tribute to the 1930s not just in the silhouette and the cut of the fabric, but also in the details. All of the closures are tiny metal snaps or hooks & eyes, exactly as the dress would have been made during that era.

This gown is a collector's item and an investment piece.

This dress is cut on the bias, so it has some stretch, but because it is a delicate fabric, we do not recommend stretching the gown to its limit.
