General background & information
Our staff is enamored of this feminine, romantic wedding dress that evokes the fashions made popular by the legendary Marie Antoinette. It is unlike anything else we have in our collection (or anything we have seen in contemporary bridal). Cordelia was sourced from Spain, and while a maker's label is absent, the materials used to create this gown are exquisite.
It is constructed from silk dupion in a shade of muted rosy gold. (The color is most accurate in images 2, 3, and 5.) The off-shoulder neckline of the bodice is made from densely corded lace in a warm ivory color. The same lace was used to create the 3/4-length bell sleeves, which are accented with a silk bow. The bodice also features piping to emphasize the seam lines and a Basque waistline. The gown is finished with a functional lace-up back over a zipper.
The skirt is given volume through the use of box pleats. Lace motifs are cleverly buried inside of the pleats, which provides visual texture and balance to the skirt.
In the images, we paired Cordelia with a mantilla veil made from vintage silk tulle and Art Deco-era gold embroidered lace. This is not included with the gown, but may be available separately.
You can see a video of Cordelia on our Instagram here.
Size & measurements
Measurements must be used to assess whether a gown will fit you or can be altered to fit you. A gown can usually be made 2-3 sizes smaller without compromising the design, but can rarely be made more than approximately 1/2-1” larger without making major modifications. The exterior measurements of this dress are as follows:
Bust - 35"
Waist - 28"
Hips - free
It is approximately a modern size 6. Note that the lacing in the back is decorative, not functional; it laces over a zipper. It will not have a significant effect on the fit.
Condition notes
Cordelia is in excellent vintage condition. We believe it was probably not worn because it contains none of the typical indications of wear (dirt along the hem, underarm discoloration, etc.). The ivory lace has probably darkened slightly in places over the years, but because the color is fairly uniform overall, we cannot say for certain.
