General information & background
 
Crystal is a late 1990s Vera Wang fit-and-flare wedding dress. It is constructed from duchess silk satin in a cool, dark ivory tone. The focal point of this gown is the embellishment on the bodice and top of the skirt. This embroidery was carried out by hand using traditional silk embroidery and goldwork techniques. Goldwork is a historic embroidery style that uses various textures and sizes of metal wire. The embroidery has a delicate botanical motif that provides visual texture from afar, but is beautifully complex and detailed up close. 
 
Aside from the embellishment, Crystal is a clean, striking design. The bodice has a square neckline and subtle princess seams. It sits at the natural waist. While many vintage Vera Wang dresses have covered buttons along the back bodice, Vera omitted them with this design, which helps maintain a clean look overall.
