General information & background
This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to own a fully custom vintage Vera Wang. To our knowledge, this is the only custom-designed vintage Vera Wang created for someone who is not a public figure. During the time that this dress was created, Vera was designing custom dresses for celebrities like Victoria Beckham and Mariah Carey. Maggie was designed and created for a Y2K wedding. The bride's father was Vera's colleague, and she vividly remembers details about her meetings with Vera to design her wedding dress.
This strapless ball gown was constructed from Vera's trademark duchess silk satin. This dense, rich fabric is unrivaled by anything on the market today. Maggie features a so-called "crumb-catcher" neckline with a center slit in the crumb catcher. The waistline is a variation of a dropped waist called an S-waist, in which the waist seam sits at the natural waist along the sides, and has a bell-like shape along the front and back waist.
Maggie has a very dramatic and voluminous skirt, with generous pleating along the full width of the back waist. The dress is finished with a row of covered buttons along the back of the bodice.
