General background & information

Angie* is the wedding dress that Vera Wang herself referred to as the "Rolls Royce of Vera Wang." It was originally introduced in 1999, and quickly became a coveted and iconic Vera Wang style. (See final slide for the image of this dress on the runway.) This gown was purchased at Barney's New York.

Angie is constructed from a champagne-toned duchess silk satin, a fabric and shade that were made popular by Victoria Beckham's iconic custom-made Vera Wang wedding dress.

The bodice has a strapless, straight neckline and Vera's signature S-waistline. It is adorned with antique silver embroidery, which was carried out using a rare technique called tambour that requires a high level of skill. The skirt is heavily pleated at the center front and center back in order to provide a great deal of volume, giving it the classic bell shape. An insert at the end of the train is adorned with the same embroidery as the bodice.

Angie is a very dramatic and formal gown!

Size & measurements

Measurements must be used to assess whether a gown will fit you or can be altered to fit you. In general, a gown can be altered down 2-3 sizes, but can rarely be made more than a little bit larger without making substantial changes to the dress. The flat measurements of Angie are as follows:

Bust - 34"

Waist - 27-28"

Hip - free

This gown is approximately a modern size 4. Note: The bodice of a gown can often be made larger by removing the zipper and adding a lace-up panel instead. We do not recommend such an alteration for this dress because the embroidery extends to either side of the zipper.

* We believe this gown was originally named Wallis in honor of Wallis Simpson. It has become known that Simpson was a Nazi sympathizer, so we named our version of this dress after its original wearer instead, as we always do with our previously-owned wedding gowns.
