Vera Wang Zinnia (late 1990s)
General background & information
Zinnia is an unusual and exciting find: a sunflower yellow vintage Vera Wang wedding dress! This was almost certainly a custom gown, as we have not been able to find an indication that there was a yellow wedding dress in any of her 1990s bridal collections. (Because Vera embraced color in bridal attire and used it liberally from the very beginning of her career, it isn't surprising that a bride would have sought out a Vera Wang if she wanted a yellow dress.)
Zinnia is constructed from satin-faced silk organza, a fabric that has beautiful, natural movement and volume. It has a dropped-waist, square-neck bodice, spaghetti straps, and an A'line silhouette. The full skirt features a box pleat at the center front and a small train.
The bodice of Zinnia is densely embroidered with ribbon, thread, rhinestones, and pearls in a floral/botanical motif. This was carried out entirely by hand. The skill that went into creating this embellishment is remarkable. It is a work of art that needs to be seen in person to be fully appreciated! This type of embellishment is not found in bridal today, and it is something to be treasured.
